CPanel Features
cPanel, also known as Web Host Manager (WHM), is a control panel system that allows for administration of your website including the management of your email accounts, ftp accounts, and databases.

In cPanel you can make backups of your website, create password protected directories, add and remove email accounts, view email, change passwords, and view website statistics including daily and monthly visits.

For complete cPanel documentation go here.

Opening Your cPanel
Your cPanel hosting control panel is at http://yourdomain.com/cpanel/ (replace 'yourdomain.com' with your actual domain name). To login, use your standard hosting user ID and password.

Mail Management
From your cPanel main page http://yourdomain.com/cpanel (replace 'yourdomain.com' with your actual domain name) you can fully administer all email functions from the 'Mail' section, including Email Accounts (Delete, Change Quota, Change Password, Configure, Web Mail, Forwarding, Autoresponders, Mailing Lists, MX mail domain changes, and Filtering.

Once cPanel is open click on the Mail Icon in the top left. From there you can manage your email account including:

  • Click Email Accounts in the Mail Section
  • Create a new account by filling in the fields.
  • Modify an existing account listed below the Add Account section.
  • and manage many other functions such as Spam-Assassin, mailing lists etc.

Using a Mail Client Such as Outlook
  • The settings are provided in this section. Use the non-SSL settings. Normally you will configure for POP3 if you have Outlook. You may need to change the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) through Outlook from mail.yourdomain.com to the SMTP Server your ISP (Internet Service Provider) lists for use, as many ISP's make you use their Outgoing Mail Server.
  • Note that the Mail account UserName needs to be the full email address. If you set up 'george' as your email account, the UserName would be george@yourdomain.com
  • Incoming POP3 mailserver: "mail.yourdomain.com"
  • Outgoing SMTP mailserver: You may be able to use "mail.yourdomain.com" but many Internet Service Providers (ISP's) require you to use THEIR SMTP for outgoing mail. Ask their tech department what their outgoing SMTP is.
  • If you choose in the settings to 'Leave a copy of the message on server' be sure to also say to remove it after a few days. Otherwise your mail account will get overly full, and cause problems.

Web Based eMail

As an alternative, you can read and send mail on the web through SquirrelMail.

To view one specific email account go to: http://yourdomainname.com/webmail

  • To login, the password will be the custom one that they or you set up for this specific mail account, not the main cPanel password.
  • Be sure the login user name is the full email address. If you set up 'george' as your email account, the UserName would be the complete 'george@yourdomain.com'.
  • You will be asked for the password for that specific mail account.
  • If you forget what your mail account password is, give us a call and we will change it for you.
